MARCH MADNESS LIVES UP TO ITS NAME!March Madness is living up to its name with a few madness-inducing nail-biters yesterday as we head into the Sweet 16. Duke's Coach K (Mike Kryzewski [pr: shuh-SHEV-ski]) got his 900th win as the Blue Devils held off Michigan, 73-71, to advance to the Western Regional semifinals Thursday in Anaheim, California. They'll meet Arizona who upset the Texas Longhorns in their own nail-biter, 70-69. Meanwhile, two top-seeded teams Sunday proved worthy of their ranking, both cruising to easy victories and into the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament. Overall No. 1 Ohio State simply dismantled eighth-seeded George Mason 98-66, leaving no doubt they are the team to beat. Playing in front of a hometown crowd, Cleveland native David Lighty lit up the Buckeyes’ stat sheet, sinking all 7 of his 3-point shots to finish with 25 points, fabulous freshman forward Jared Sullinger hit 7 of his 10 field goal attempts to end with 18, and guard William Buford shot 4 for 7 from 3-point land and 7 for 14 overall to match Sullinger’s 18. OSU next plays Kentucky on Friday. Kansas, another No. 1-seed, had very little trouble handling ninth-seeded Illinois, defeating the Fighting Illini 73-59. Jayhawks’ forward Markieff Morris was on the mark all night, making 10 of his 13 shots from the floor to end with 24 points, his twin brother, Marcus added 17, and Tyshawn Taylor contributed 13. Kansas will face Cinderella Richmond Friday in San Antonio. For all the scores visit NCAA.com
