COME ON MAN!!

When you commit a crime, being discreet is key. Not for this woman in Topeka, Kansas, who wore the flashiest tracksuit she could find to rob a convenience store last week. Tihesia Birdlong, clad in bright blue and yellow, brandished a screwdriver and demanded money from a clerk on St. Patrick’s Day. Surveillance caught the 26-year-old leaving the store in the easy-to-spot get-up and she was later nabbed while watching the St. Paddy's Day parade on a street downtown. Maybe she should’ve changed into something green…

NEW CAR SEAT GUIDLEINES ARE OUT

New car seat guidelines were released yesterday. According to update advice from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, children should ride in rear-facing car seats until they are two years old, instead of one. Both organizations – in separate but consistent reports – also said that older children who’ve outgrown front-facing car seats should ride in booster seats until the car’s seatbelt fits them properly. Also recommended is that children younger than 13 should ride in the back seat. The new guidelines are based on evidence from crashes. According to data, one-year-olds are five times less likely to be injured in a crash if they are in a rear-facing car seat than a forward-facing seat. And poorly fitting seat belts on older children can cause abdominal and spine injuries in a crash.

FORMER SUMO WRESTLER RUNS RECORD FOR FINISHING THE L.A. MARATHON! WHO SAID FAT PEOPLE ARE LAZY?

Kelly Gneiting, a 400-pound former sumo wrestler, set a Guinness World Record as the heaviest man to complete a marathon, after finishing the L.A. Marathon on Sunday in 9 hours 48 minutes. He weighed 396 pounds after the marathon, smashing the past world record of 275 pounds and beating his 2008 marathon time of 11:52. "I'd like to see the Kenyan improve his marathon time by two hours," he joked. Gneiting jogged the first eight miles and walked the final 18, saying afterward that he lost track of where he was after mile 10 because he felt delirious.

AMERICA’S FIRST FACE TRANSPLANT A SUCCESS! FACE OFF!

Doctors of hopeful that the first full-face transplant in the U.S. will give hope to battle-scarred veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars. The ground-breaking surgery was performed last week at Brigham and Women's Hospital on a Texas man who was left deformed by a high-voltage power-line accident. Dallas Wiens, of Fort Worth, survived more than 15 hours of surgery by a team of doctors who attached an anonymous donor's nose, lips and skin to his facial muscles and nerves. The Department of Defense financed the surgery in hopes that it will help future disfigured soldiers. The first full-facial transplant in the world was performed last year in Spain.

WORKS RESUMES ON THE JAPANESE REACTOR DESPITE SMOKE

Gray smoke poured from two nuclear reactor units in Japan yesterday, temporarily halting work to stabilize the damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi complex. The cause of the smoke from Units 2 and 3 is still under investigation. Since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami crippled the plant’s cooling systems, both reactors have overheated and seen explosions. Workers have been frantically trying to reconnect power lines and restore cooling systems to bring the plant under control. Trace amounts of radiation have already been detected in certain vegetables and some water supplies.

THE PREZ CLARIFIES THE U.S. STANCE ON LIBYA…

According to a U.S. national security official yesterday, some of Moammar Gadhafi’s forces have “pulled back” from a few Libyan towns after U.N.-authorized airstrikes heavily impaired their defenses. Advances by Gadhafi’s troops had been “stalled” in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi, as well as Ajdabiya and Misrata. However, the official said Gadhafi’s forces were still active and a cease-fire does not seem likely. The military action by U.S. and European forces began Saturday, and on Sunday British forces struck Gadhafi’s compound in Tripoli. The strike was reportedly targeting Gadhafi’s military command ability, but not Gadhafi himself. It was not known where the longtime leader was when the missile hit. There was a report yesterday that one of Gadhafi’s sons, 27-year-old Khamis, was killed when a Libyan pilot deliberately crashed his plane into Khamis’ compound in a kamikaze attack, but officials have denied this. Speaking from Chile yesterday, President Obama said that while Gadhafi must go, the mission in Libya is strictly humanitarian.

BRADLEY COOPER & RENEE ZELLWHATEVER HAVE CALLED IT QUITS…Usmagazine.com reports that after less than two years of dating Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger have called it quits. Reps for both stars refused to comment on the report, in which the site quotes multiple sources. The couple has always been rather private about their relationship, but Renee was in attendance during Bradley's recent appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio. When asked recently during a radio interview about their relationship, all Bradley would say was that they were not engaged.

"I was held at Northwestern University's psych ward for 48 hours, and was evaluated by many mental health experts who all agreed that I was pretty with it. And not psychotic." LAKERS

THE LAKERS HAVE CLINCHED THEIR PLAYOFF SPOT…The Los Angeles Lakers (50-20) Sunday officially began defense of their NBA championship with an 84-80 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers (40-30) that secured them a playoff spot and earned them their fourth straight Pacific Division crown. Veteran Derek Fisher, who’s been in a Lakers uniform to enjoy a whole heck of a lot of playoff appearances, hit the game and playoff-clinching jumper with 10 seconds on the clock, and once again earned praise from his teammates. “He makes big shots all the time,” said Kobe Bryant, who finished with 22 points. “D-Fish came through,” added Lamar Odom, who contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds. One teammate not around to congratulate Fisher was center Andrew Bynum, who served the first of his two-game suspension for a flagrant foul 2 against Minnesota’s Michael Beasley last Friday. Here is the rest of Sunday’s NBA scoreboard.

SPORTS

MARCH MADNESS LIVES UP TO ITS NAME!March Madness is living up to its name with a few madness-inducing nail-biters yesterday as we head into the Sweet 16. Duke's Coach K (Mike Kryzewski [pr: shuh-SHEV-ski]) got his 900th win as the Blue Devils held off Michigan, 73-71, to advance to the Western Regional semifinals Thursday in Anaheim, California. They'll meet Arizona who upset the Texas Longhorns in their own nail-biter, 70-69. Meanwhile, two top-seeded teams Sunday proved worthy of their ranking, both cruising to easy victories and into the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament. Overall No. 1 Ohio State simply dismantled eighth-seeded George Mason 98-66, leaving no doubt they are the team to beat. Playing in front of a hometown crowd, Cleveland native David Lighty lit up the Buckeyes’ stat sheet, sinking all 7 of his 3-point shots to finish with 25 points, fabulous freshman forward Jared Sullinger hit 7 of his 10 field goal attempts to end with 18, and guard William Buford shot 4 for 7 from 3-point land and 7 for 14 overall to match Sullinger’s 18. OSU next plays Kentucky on Friday. Kansas, another No. 1-seed, had very little trouble handling ninth-seeded Illinois, defeating the Fighting Illini 73-59. Jayhawks’ forward Markieff Morris was on the mark all night, making 10 of his 13 shots from the floor to end with 24 points, his twin brother, Marcus added 17, and Tyshawn Taylor contributed 13. Kansas will face Cinderella Richmond Friday in San Antonio. For all the scores visit NCAA.com

SHAME ON THEM

TWO CRABBY CRIMINALS EPICALLY FAILED UP IN NORTH FL…Cops reeled in two boneheaded Florida crooks last week after they robbed a seafood restaurant -- and then tried to bribe their way to freedom with crabmeat. Joey Kevin Lindsey and Sam Foster Wheat were captured after a surveillance camera caught them stealing nearly 20 containers of high-end seafood. Cops followed their noses and caught the two men with about $150 worth of crabmeat -- which the fraudulent fishermen offered up as a bribe. That didn't go so swimmingly, and they were arrested for retail theft.

FLY IN HER SOUP?

I’LL HAVE THE BABY BACK, BABY BACK, BABY BACKS…HOLD THE SEWING NEEDLE!This woman would have been better off with a fly in her soup!  New Mexico resident Ashley Phillips was dining at a Chili’s restaurant when she got a sharp surprise- there was a two-inch-long sewing needle in her plate of ribs and mashed potatoes.  She pulled the needle out of her mouth, and it was quickly snatched up by a Chili’s employee.  When she asked to get the needle back so she could have it tested, the staff refused.  So Ashley is suing!  She complained that Chili’s waited almost two months to send the needle to a lab.  In the meantime, she had to get a battery of tests to make sure she hadn’t contracted any diseases.  She probably didn’t leave a very good tip!

THIS KID MAKES US LOOK BAD

16-year old looks to become youngest to North Pole

16-year old Parker Liautaud hopes to become the youngest person to the North Pole16-year old Parker Liautaud has set some rather large goals for himself. While many young men and women his age are concerned with getting good grades and who they'll be taking to the dance on Saturday night, Parker is busy planning and training for an expedition to the North Pole. His second such expedition in fact.

Liautaud is hoping to become the youngest person to travel to the Pole on foot, and in two weeks time he'll set out for the arctic to do just that. He and his guide, polar veteran Doug Stoup, will make a "Last Degree" journey from 89ยบ North to the top of the world on skis. In the process, he hopes to raise awareness about the growing impact of global climate change on our environment, while also inspiring other young people to go out and do great things as well.

Parker attempted this same journey last year, but came up just short of his goal thanks to a combination of extremely bad weather, negative drift of the ice, and large sections of open water. Despite their best efforts, Parker and Stoup came up 15 miles shy of the finish line, and had to be airlifted to the North Pole via helicopter to catch their plane ride home. This year they hope to finish what they started in 2010.

While on the journey north, Parker and Stoup will be taking measurements of the amount of snow on the arctic ice. That data will be shared with the University of Alberta upon their return with hopes that it will offer insights into the short and long term impact of climate change on the region.

When he sets out in two weeks you'll be able to follow Parker's progress via his website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. It should be quite an expedition for the young man.

WANT TO GET LAID?

TIRED OF TRYING TO GET LAID OFF OF FACEBOOK? BEHOLD, UCHICAGOHOOKUPS.COM!Since Facebook was launched, young adults have used it to hook up. That isn't all Facebook is good for, but nobody can deny the fact that plenty of people are making more and more "friends" in order to get some action. Well, a student at the University of Chicago is tired of beating around the bush with Facebook and has started a social networking site dedicated to casual sex. UChicagoHookups.com allows University of Chicago students -- and only UChicago students -- to find casual encounters. More than 300 people have already signed up for the service, looking for a "no strings attached" sexual experience.

YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS.

YOUR ‘WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE’ NEWS IS BROUGHT TO YOU TODAY BY SCRANTON, PA!This woman’s got a built-in storage facility down there! Police discovered Sunday that Scranton, Pennsylvania resident Karin Mackaliunas had a sizable stash of drugs and money hidden in her you-know-where. The 27-year-old was suspected of robbing an inn and was detained after crashing her car. Cops searching her for weapons found three bags of heroin in her jacket, but then they noticed her fidgeting in the back seat of the police cruiser and realized she may have been hiding more. A thorough search conducted by a doctor at Community Medical Center turned up 54 bags of heroin, 31 empty bags used to package heroin, 8.5 prescription pills and $51.22 in her lady parts! Must’ve been a tight squeeze!

WANT TO LIVE LONGER??

WANNA LIVE LONGER? STAY HITCHED AND WORK HARD…THAT WILL BE ALLAccording to a new study, men who work hard and stay married live longer than those who live a relaxed, single life. Researchers found that being conscientious, hard-working and having a wide social network is worth a few years on the end of your life. "If you want to improve your health, you shouldn't just go on a joyride, but get involved in meaningful, productive kinds of things," study author Howard S. Friedman said.

JAPAN

UPDATE: JAPAN NUCLEAR REACTORProgress was being made yesterday on the tsunami-damaged nuclear complex in Japan, officials said. The operator of the overheated Fukushima Dai-ichi plant said two of the six reactor units were safely cooled down. And according to Deputy Cabinet Secretary Tetsuro Fukuyama, officials “are very close to getting the situation under control.” The crisis is far from over, though. There was a buildup in pressure inside the vessel holding Unit 3's reactor, meaning plant operators may need to deliberately release radioactive steam. It has also just been announced that workers have been evacuated after smoke was seen rising from one of the reactors. Japan’s Health Ministry announced late yesterday that tests detected excess amounts of radiation on canola and chrysanthemum greens. The government has already halted shipments of tainted spinach from one area and raw milk from another near the nuclear plant. Meanwhile yesterday, a teenager and his grandmother were found alive, nine days after becoming trapped in their earthquake-shattered home.  Jin Abe, 16, and 80-year-old Sumi Abe had survived on the food they had in their refrigerator. The death toll from the March 11 quake and ensuing tsunami now stands at more than 8,100. You can text the word REDCROSS to the number 90999 to donate $10 toward the relief efforts.

Nothing Like American Cars

I'm not saying all imported cars are terrible. But there is a wonderful feeling seeing and driving a car that has an American name, American engine.

wow!

Im very sorry, but i absolutely hate Honda and all of their products.
